TESKHTD Scavenger Hunt

TESKHTD Scavenger Hunt

This is a scavenger hunt-like activity where you will make sure that you know how to do most of the TESKHTD (Things Everyone Should Know How To Do) on your computer. Have fun!

  1. Open up a web browser.
  2. Search for the Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF) by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
  3. Download the Framework PDF.
  4. Create a Folder on your Desktop
  5. Call it NIST SSDF.
  6. Move the downloaded PDF of the NIST SSDF to the folder.
  7. Create a shortcut to the PDF.
  8. Put the shortcut on your Desktop.
  9. In your browser search for The Common Weakness Enumeration by Mitre.
  10. Bookmark this page.
  11. Search for the OWASP Top Ten page.
  12. Which of the pages you’ve been directed to are secure?
  13. See if you can find an example of a phishing attempt in your junk email and take a picture of it.
  14. Add me to your email contacts. My email address is laurenmonowarjones@wecancodeit.org.
  15. Send me an email. Use proper email etiquette and send me the picture of the phishing attempt.
  16. Go to the jetbrains.com software website and download the IntelliJ IDEA.
  17. Is this a reliable source? If so, install this software and configure it for java and gradle and create a desktop shortcut, but don’t add a “bin” folder path.
  18. Check the operating system of the software your computer is using.
  19. Update it, if you can (there is probably a patch that you need).
  20. Find an application to which you are already subscribed and change the password to a more secure password or passphrase.
  21. Check your internet service for security and speed. Record your upload and download speeds.
  22. Back up a folder from your computer to a cloud account that you have.
